Former U of G soccer captain Justin Springer is wearing the colours of the St. Kitts and Nevis national team, known as the Sugar Boys. Springer, a Canadian, calls Guelph home, but has a strong family bond with the West Indies island nation, the birthplace of his father.

Springer made headlines and received wide coverage recently for his participation in the CONCACAF Nations League competition, where he and his teammates competed against the Canadian squad.

A Canadian Press story about Springer appeared in the National Post,  Yahoo! Sports and several other publications.

Canada is ranked 76th in world compared to St. Kitts and Nevis at 133rd. Nevertheless, the Canadians were in tough with the underdog, winning the Nov. 18 match by the slim margin of 1-0.

Springer currently serves as an assistant coach for Gryphons soccer.
